学生時代に聴き始めた頃は、和訳も知らず、単に美メロな曲だと思っていました。
恥ずかしながら最近歌詞の意味を知り、約４０年も前の『Mercy Mercy Me』が環境問題を謳っていると知りました。
改めて聴き直してみると、いろいろ考えさせられます。

アルバム『What's　Going　On』はベトナム戦争や公害、貧困などの社会問題を取り上げ、ソウルやR&Bの世界では当時画期的なことだったそうです。
